USA Swimming Coaches Safety Curriculum 2007-2008 Requirements and Equivalents

All Maryland coaches are mandated to take the USA Swimming background check by February 9th, 2007. This is the deadline set by USA Swimming for Maryland.  A week after that deadline, all coaches will be required to display the new green coaches card as proof of registration.  The blue cards will no longer be valid after February 16th, 2007 and any coach not passing the background check by February 16th, 2007 will no longer be a coach member of USA Swimming.  The only background check that is accepted by USA Swimming is on the www.usa-swimming website; no other background checks are accepted.  Upon completion of the background check process, each coach's certification record is automatically updated by USA Swimming and a new card is issued. There is no need to contact Maryland Swimming with your results. The USA Swimming Background Check Program is a no-option program.  Questions? Contact Pat Kaplan: pkaplan10@comcast.net.

To All USA Swimming Registered Teams

In the Maryland LSC:

All teams must clean the Hy-Tek data base used for meet entries.  Any Swimmer listed more than once (two or more different names) will NOT be considered for the Maryland Top 5.

ANTI-RECRUITING POLICY

COACHES:

  • Maryland Swimming "AAAA Club" bag tags are being sent to coaches who submitted AAAA achievers' names.

  • Any Coach or Team needing Registration Information of any kind should contact:
    Pat Kaplan

  • Any Coach or Team needing Coaches Training should contact Kim Easterday

  • If you have not registered - or you have not registered your team - you may not be on deck - even at practice.

  • If your team is not registered - your athletes must all compete as unattached* - and your team may not swim relays at any meet.

  • For meets with trials and finals and/or a positive check in:

  • For a trials and finals meet - the USA Swimming scratch rule must be fully stated in the meet notice, not just the rule number. The notation that if a Maryland swimmer fails to scratch and does not appear for the finals of their final event of the meet - that swimmer's team will incur a fine of $50 - must also be in the meet notice.

  • For positive check in - timed finals events, there is no specific USA Swimming rule, so the host team must clearly state in the meet notice, the penalty that will be incurred at that meet if a swimmer checks in and does not swim - or if a swimmer does not check in and shows to swim.

  • An additional stipulation must be listed if the swimmer does not scratch and fails to swim  their last event of the meet.  No swimmer who is entered in an event with an over-qualified time, or who is known/proven to be overqualified for an event, may be allowed to swim that event. The rule states - "knowingly" or "unknowingly" entered.

The swimmer's team and the host team are liable for fines if the swimmer swims the event - under NO conditions may a swimmer be allowed to swim an event for which he is OVER qualified!

  • In this age of electronic mail - no entries are official until the meet director/host team has the entry check in hand! The meet director has the option to accept electronic entries, but they cannot be official until the entry fees are in hand.

  • Maryland Swimming has established a $25 returned check fee. This will apply to entries as well as all other LSC monetary transactions.

TEAM DELEGATES:

Please review your club information, especially your e-mail address in both the Clubs Directory and your Club's WebPages.

Send updates and corrections to the Webmaster and Pat Kaplan

  • Meet notices MUST be mailed to EVERY name on the label sheets - the Meet Director may NOT pick and choose. Additional mailings may be made, of course.  Maryland Swimming no longer requires the Meet Director of a Maryland Sanctioned Meet to mail you a paper copy of meet results.    Download from web site.

  • You will get your results on disk - from which you can print.

  • All Meet Directors are required to submit results to the Webmaster within 48 hours of the end of the meet. Anyone wishing to run a copy from there may do so also.

  • Maryland Swimming "AAAA Club" bag tags are being sent to coaches who submitted AAAA achievers' names.

  • Any Coach or Team needing Registration Information of any kind should contact: Pat Kaplan
