    Doug Brown


    Doug “Dougout” Brown got his nickname when he was covering the Orioles.

     

    Graduated 1949 from Lansdowne High in Pennsylvania.

    ·         Played football, baseball, wrestling

    ·         Student Council, school paper, yearbook staff

    ·         Class Treasurer, Freshman and Senior year

     

    Lifeguard in Ocean City, New Jersey in the summers.

     

    Graduated 1953 from Dartmouth, Botany Major, Chi Phi Fraternity.

    ·         Swam and dived until knee injury

    ·         Sports Editor of Dartmouth Paper and “From Heaven” publication

    ·         Dartmouth Press Club

     

    Graduated in 1956 from Columbia School of Journalism.

     

    Started covering the Orioles for The Sun in 1956 and covered them for ten years.

     

    Columnist for The Sun for over a decade.

     

    Received the Sportswriter of the Year Award in 1967 presented by the National Sportswriter and Sportscasters Association.

     

    Received the Media Award of Outstanding Service to the Game of Lacrosse for the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

     

    A lifetime member of the Baseball Writers of America.

     

    Doug’s versatility has made him a key writer on the Baltimore Sun Staff.  He has covered every sport imaginable from local to international levels.   He is the only one who has consistently pushed for swimming coverage.  He has no plans to retire though he will be 65 in February.

     

    Doug was an active swim parent at Rollingwood and KCO and helped in the formation of the CMSL.  He met Nancy, his wife, who is a nationally ranked Masters Swimmer at the Catonsville Y.  Doug has 12 grandchildren.
