    Sid Burkot


    Coach Sid Burkot graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1978, the recipient of the John T. Bell award for outstanding swimming.  Sid earned a Masters from Temple University. Coaching high school in Reading, Pennsylvania, Coach Burkot amassed a 128-12 record over eight years.  After leading the Indian River Community College (Florida) to a national title, Coach Burkot accepted the position of Head Coach at University of Maryland Baltimore Campus (UMBC).  While at UMBC he founded and developed the Retrievers Aquatic Club, a USA Swimming club which has seen great success in developing national and international caliber swimmers since its inception.  Sid's success as an age-group program coach and developer, including the 1989 Women's Junior National Team Championship, are rivaled by his achievements as a college coach.  His swimmers and program have garnered All America prominence, numerous ECAC and NEC Championships, as well as Coach of the Year honors for himself in 1999, 2000 & 2001.  In addition to training Olympic swimmer Mehdi Addadi and multiple Olympic Trials qualifiers, Coach Burkot also served as a member of the Olympic International Operations Committee, the Steering Committee, and chair of the Senior Swimming Committee for USA Swimming.  Sid lives in Mt. Airy with his wife, Mary Jo, and they have four children.
